“After almost 30 years in our historic home in downtown Columbus, it was time for a change. We wanted a place where we could comfortably age over the next decades but wasn’t the cookie cutter active adult communities. Village Roots was the only place that had it all – homes that are environmentally conscious and energy efficient; green space for gardening and a cool barn to support all those outdoor activities; a bike path right out the door; a walkable community with dining and shops; and Denison for academics and the arts. It seemed like a place to keep us young as we age!” – Heidi and Larry Drake
With every house plan in Village Roots, you will have a green side front porch, where you can enjoy your porch swing and still have plenty of room for a table and chairs as neighbors stop by. You’ll have a private patio, where cookouts or play can be part of your daily routine. The exterior of your home will be clad in durable fiber-cement board siding, and colored in your chosen color scheme. Inside, there will be hardwood floors and wide trim around doors and windows, to set a warm and inviting tone. All doors ways are three-feet in width for aging in place. Life is complete on the first floor.
Old Sycamore Lane is specifically designed to slow down traffic and encourage a leisurely stroll. With a no outlet cul-de-sac design and a neighborhood of only 10 homes, traffic will be minimal. A sidewalk and pathways let you head off to the Rails to Trails bike path, the gardens, the barn or in any direction to downtown.
The Chestnut can be adapted to a one-floor model (Which we are calling the Drake) by opening up the half story for a dramatic floor plan. See photos of this custom design on Floor plans and Elevations.
